Goals, work streams and content themes of our projects
GOAL
The Centre’s overarching goal is to promote and support relevant and effective policy, practice, and applied research in public health nutrition in New South Wales and Australia. The Centre works towards the achievement of this goal through five streams of work.
WORK STREAMS
Food and Nutrition Monitoring and Surveillance
The Centre regularly compiles and disseminates information to the public health workforce about the food and nutrition situation in NSW and Australia. It identifies priorities and recommends methods for monitoring and surveillance in NSW and Australia-wide.
The Centre conducts reviews of scientific evidence and accumulates evidence from experiences in the field, to identify policy and program options that show promise for achieving population changes in diet-related practices. Reviews are disseminated to public health practitioners and policy makers.
Applied Research and Evaluation
The Centre identifies priorities for research and conducts research that will inform public health nutrition policy and practice.
Public Health Workforce Development
The Centre provides technical support and training to the public health nutrition workforce to encourage relevant and effective practice.
Food Standards / Food & Nutrition Policy
The Centre provides expert advice to State and Commonwealth Food and Health authorities regarding national food and nutrition policies including changes to food regulations, consumer food guides and dietary guidelines, nutrition reference standards, and obesity prevention.
